En este post os muestro los pasos necesarios para crear una simpática carita de gatito al que quise llamar Whiskerstone. Podéis inspiraros en cualquier dibujo o fotografía de nuestra mascota. Yo he intentado representarla de la forma más realista posible como si tuviéramos su cabecita entre las manos.
En primer lugar, un breve recordatorio de los materiales utilizados: una piedra de basalto bien lisa y preferiblemente de forma ovalada, pinturas acrílicas en tubo, 3 pinceles de diferentes tamaños (grueso, medio y fino) y un lápiz blanco (yo siempre utilizo Carbothello de Stabilo) que necesitamos para trazar el dibujo a grandes rasgos.
Cualquier creación en piedra siempre empezará desde el fondo. Es imprescindible crear una base con los colores principales de nuestro gatito; en mi caso son tres los colores dominantes de Whisker que yo elegí después de haber trazado, como véis, por el lápiz las lineas generales de una cara de gato. Un blanco/gris abajo, un tipo de beis en el medio y un gris con tendencia al negro a nivel de las orejas son los 3 colores que constituirán la carita.
En esta imagen se ve el siguiente paso. Se empieza a trabajar sobre los tres fondos poco a poco para crear el pelaje del gato, y esto se hace a través del pincel más pequeño que ahora os mostraré
Es importante que sea un pincel de calidad (no recomiendo los conjuntos comunes que venden los chinos), a ser posible de marca (yo uso los Talens y los Van Gogh) porque con un mantenimiento adecuado (lavarlos siempre después de cada uso con agua y jabón y dejarlos secar) la punta permanece intacta: mediante ella es posible realizar los detalles como en este caso serán los pelos del gato.
En la imagen de arriba ya podéis notar la evolución de la carita: puntitos blancos abajo pintados con este pincel sobre el fondo gris (éste ya seco por supuesto).
Los ojos ya han sido coloreados con la primera capa de amarillo como pueden ver y en la zona de la nariz he utilizado el marrón claro sobre fondo beis ya que este contraste creará el pelaje de ese color que he escogido.
El ojo derecho ya está sufriendo cambios, como puede verse: no es más que una bola de negro que poco a poco se irá definiendo con el gris y el blanco. El blanco da la luz y a través de él se define la expresión de nuestra mascota.

By this post I am going to show you the steps to create a cute little kitty face that I wanted to call Whiskerstone. You can take inspiration from any drawing or photograph of our pet. I have tried to represent it as realistic as possible as if we were holding its head in our hands.
First of all, a brief reminder of materials required: a very smooth and preferably oval-shaped basalt stone, acrylic colours in tubes, 3 brushes of different sizes (thick, medium and thin) and a white pencil (I always use Stabilo Carbothello) which we need to draw the rough outline of the drawing.
Any creation in stone will always start from the bottom. It is essential to create a base with main colours of our kitten; in this occasion there are 3 dominant colours of Whisker that I chose after having drawn, as you can see, the general lines of a cat's face in pencil. A white/grey below, a kind of beige in the middle and some grey with a tendency to black at the level of the ears are the 3 colours that will make up the face.
This picture shows next step. We start working on the three backgrounds little by little to create the cat's fur, and this is done with the smaller brush which I will now show you.
It is important it is a quality brush (I don't recommend the common sets sold by chinese shops), if possible a branded one (I use Talens and Van Gogh) because with proper maintenance (always wash them after each use with soap and water and let them dry) the tip remains intact: thanks to this it is possible to make details as in this case will be the cat's fur.
In the picture above you can already see the little face evolution: white dots at the bottom painted with this brush on the grey background (which is already dry of course).
The eyes have already been coloured with the first layer of yellow as you can see and in the nose area I used light brown on a beige background as this contrast will create the fur of colour I have chosen.
The right eye is already undergoing changes, as you can see: it is nothing more than a black ball that will gradually be defined by grey and white. The white gives light and through it the expression of our pet is defined.
